Semantic Technologies Introduction is a free introductory course aimed at people who use or intend to use semantic technologies for data management, publishing, content analysis. It is targeted at senior managers, IT professionals and individuals who are interested in gaining a thorough understanding of the basic concepts and standards around the Semantic Web. It is also a foundation for the Semantic Technologies with OWLIM course offered the following day on April 12th.

Some Background and Brief Course Description

Semantic Technologies Introduction is a free 2-hour course that offers a thorough grounding in semantic technologies, covering:

  • Introduction to semantic technologies
  • Knowledge representation and standards (RDF, RDF schema, OWL)
  • Querying RDF data - SPARQL
  • Managing RDF data - SPARQL Update and named graphs
  • Linked Data principles

This introductory course is offered in conjunction with the European Commission-funded EUCLID project, which aims to develop a standardised training curriculum and training materials for Linked Data and Semantic Technologies.

Course Prerequisites

Participants require only a basic level of IT experience. An interest in Semantic Technologies will help, but no prior experience with W3C semantic web standards (RDF, OWL or SPARQL) is necessary.
