The minimum system requirements to run the basic KIM installation are:

  • Intel® Pentium® IV 1GHz or compatible processor
  • 2 GB total system RAM
  • 500 MB hard disk space
  • Linux, Microsoft® Windows (2000 SP2 / XP / 2003 / Vista / 7), Mac OS X 10.5
    + (Leopard, Snow Leopard)
  • Sun / Oracle JDK SE 6 or higher ( download ) on Linux and Windows and the bundled JDK by Apple on Mac OS X machines.
  • servlet container or J2EE application server for the Web User Interface. The following have been tested and work:

Running KIM with a JRE is not supported. J2EE is not required. Since all essential KIM components are 100% pure Java, it should run in all environments with mature Java support.
Currently, in order to be more user-friendly, KIM server comes with an embedded Mortbay Jetty servlet container. It can be easily turned off and another servlet container used instead.

Expected load
The default KIM platform can be used by up to 5 users simultaneously, who browse in Facets or do Boolean search. When doing Timeline analysis the retrieving process slow down noticeable.
